The LCI Chairperson of Ikondere cell, Ibanda parish, Nyarushanje Sub County Rukungiri district together with his wife are on the run after reportedly killing a 28 year old area resident over suspected coffee theft.
The victim, now deceased is identified as Robert Muhumuza alias Muja a resident of Ruyonja cell Nyarushanje Sub County Rukungiri district.
The suspects are Benson Turyahabwe and his wife Christine Turyahabwa.
The two, together with their employee only identified as Girigori are accused of allegedly beating and killing Muhumuza, after they suspected him of stealing coffee.
It’s alleged that, on the Sunday at around 10PM the deceased, went with his friend Hillary Mwesigwa from Nyarushanje trading centre while drunk and they decided to sleep together at Mwesigwa Hillary’s residence.
On Monday, yesterday but one, at around midnight, the Ikondere Village Chairperson Turyahabwe, his wife Christine, their employee Girigori, knocked on the door where the deceased and Mwesigwa Hillary were sleeping and when Mwesigwa Hillary opened the door, Turyahabwe and his group tied them with ropes as they started assaulting them on allegations that they had stolen Benson Turyahabwe’s coffee at home.
The Assault attracted the complainant one Akampa Felix a brother to Mwesigwa Hillary who stopped Turyahabwe Benson and company from assaulting them.
The suspects left the crime scene then Mwesigwa Hillary and the deceased remained in the house in pain.
And, at around 15:00hrs Mwesigwa Hillary realized that his colleague was dead.
He informed Akampa Felix the brother, who reported the matter to the police.
The Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate says that the suspects are on run and efforts to get them apprehended are being made.
