Two Police Officers attached to Muhanga Police Station in Rukiga district have been charged with discreditable conduct for allegedly extorting Citizens.
The two officers were identified after an anonymous person recorded the video of the two extorting two citizens and the video later went viral on different Social Media platforms in Rukiga district, later to almost the whole of greater Kabale region.
The two police officers in the video were later identified and charged. They are No. 73027 PC Gorrete Akech and No. 77063 PC Sam Omara, attached to Muhanga Police Station in Rukiga district.
The police management has condemned their actions, warning other officers against similar behavior.
The Kigezi region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate says after the two accused officers were identified, they were charged with discreditable conduct vide Muhanga SD REF. 13/04/06/2025.
Maate added that their case file is being processed for trial before the District Disciplinary Committee.
Maate encourages victims of extortion to always report to the Regional Police Headquarters in Kabale to make formal complaints and facilitate investigations.
The Kigezi Police Spokesperson emphasized swift action against the officers, highlighting the importance of accountability within the force.
He further noted that the incident should serve as a reminder of the need for professionalism and integrity in law enforcement.
