Police in Kitagwenda District have arrested Jafari Tindikahwa, the campaign manager for Hon. Nulu Byamukama, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Kitagwenda County, over allegations of vandalizing campaign materials belonging to his opponent, Hon. Abbas Agaba Mugisa.
Tindikahwa was apprehended on Wednesday, June 5, 2025, at Rwesigire–Kinagamukono Police Post in Nyabani Sub-county. He was detained for several hours before being released on police bond.
According to police sources, Tindikahwa allegedly hired a one Tumusime Jackson, a resident of Rwesigire, and paid him UGX 60,000 to tear down Hon. Abas Agaba’s posters in Rwesigire, Rutooma Trading Centre (Nyabani Sub-county), and Kicwamba Trading Centre (Ntara Town Council).
Tumusime was reportedly caught in the act during a night operation, using a ladder to climb electricity poles and remove the posters. He was apprehended after being identified by residents and later confessed to the police that he had been hired by Tindikahwa to carry out the task.
Despite being summoned, Tindikahwa initially refused to appear before the police, prompting his forced arrest. He was later compelled to record a statement regarding the incident.
The political rivalry between Hon. Nulu Byamukama and Hon. Abas Agaba has been intensifying in recent weeks. Byamukama, who previously served as MP from 2001 to 2016 before losing to Abas, reclaimed the seat in 2021. However, he is reportedly facing an uphill battle in the 2026 race, with Abas Agaba regaining significant public support.
Some observers believe the vandalism is a sign of desperation from Byamukama’s camp amid growing pressure from a rejuvenated Abas campaign. Supporters of Agaba have accused Nulu of resorting to dirty tactics to undermine his rival like insulting him using his radio stations, calling him a mufere (cone man), thief, mudslinging him using unfounded propaganda and hooliganism among others.
Our investigative reporters have discovered that Nulu Byamukama has ordered his staff at his Radio stations to always delete recordings of his talk shows immediately they end for fear of being reprimanded by the Police or Uganda Communications Commission for faulting campaign guidelines and lack of ethical and professional broadcasting standards.
Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
