Kanungu District – Incumbent Kinkizi West Member of Parliament, James Kaberuka Niringyiyimana Ruugi, has officially been nominated to contest for a third term in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Kaberuka, who has represented the constituency since 2016 following the departure of former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi, is seeking to extend his tenure amidst competition from two challengers: former Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) John Ndungutse and Kampala-based businessman Safari Christopher, known in local circles as a scrap dealer.

During his nomination at the NRM head offices in Kyadondo, Kaberuka was accompanied by his wife Shallon Kaberuka and a delegation of NRM leaders and supporters from Kinkizi West.

According to political observers in the area, Kaberuka remains the frontrunner in the race, owing to his track record in infrastructure development and community advocacy. He is widely credited for lobbying resources to improve roads and educational facilities across the constituency. Notably, he played a key role in securing a chain-link fence that has successfully prevented wild animals from encroaching on people’s homes and gardens—an issue that had long plagued residents near Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

Kaberuka, who is running on the NRM ticket, is also praised for his independent-minded approach to politics and his consistent advocacy for the interests of ordinary citizens.

As the campaign season kicks off, the race for Kinkizi West promises to be one of the most closely watched contests in the region.
