Hoima City – It was more than just a celebration; it was a statement of leadership, compassion, and empowerment. Thousands of women gathered at Kigarama Playground in Kyentale Ward, East Division, for the 2025 belated International Women’s Day celebration—and they were not disappointed. The day belonged to Hon. Nyakato Asinansi, the Hoima City Woman Member of Parliament, who turned the occasion into a showcase of service, generosity, and a reaffirmation of her commitment to transforming lives.
With little funding from government for the Women’s Day commemoration, Hon. Nyakato personally stepped in to sponsor the entire event, proving once again that real leaders don’t wait for the system—they act.

She delivered abundantly: a full bull was slaughtered for the feast, along with 500 kilograms of rice, 150 cartons of soda, and 20 cartons of bottled water. The festive atmosphere was electrifying, as women danced, laughed, and celebrated not just themselves—but the woman who has consistently stood with them.
But Hon. Nyakato didn’t stop at food and entertainment. In a bold move to promote food security and women’s economic empowerment, she distributed hundreds of packets of vegetable seedlings, including onions, cabbage, green pepper, eggplant, and sukuma wiki. Over 1,000 residents benefitted from this initiative, and maize seeds were also given out to support smallholder farmers—mostly women—who form the backbone of Hoima’s agricultural economy.

Her arrival at the venue was met with ululations, song, and dance—an organic outpouring of gratitude from the very women she represents. As she addressed the crowd, Nyakato made a passionate appeal for continued support in the next election, reminding constituents of her track record both in Parliament and on the ground.
“My promise has always been action, not just words,” she told the cheering crowd. “From repairing and constructing over 30 boreholes to championing the establishment of a regional blood bank and a new Intensive Care Unit at Hoima Regional Hospital, I have been your voice and your servant.”
Indeed, her impact is tangible. Access to clean water, which was once a major concern for many women in Hoima’s urban and peri-urban communities, has significantly improved due to her borehole initiatives. She has also been lauded nationally for raising key health issues on the floor of Parliament, fighting for improved healthcare access in the oil-rich but underserved Bunyoro sub-region.

Speaker after speaker praised her as the embodiment of people-centered leadership. “We have never had any other MP as hardworking, approachable, and consistent as Nyakato Asinansi,” said Wembabazi, one of the women leaders at the event. “She listens, she delivers, and above all, she respects us.”
Though the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) was listed as the chief guest, the crowd’s attention and admiration clearly belonged to Nyakato. In fact, many participants began leaving shortly after she finished her speech, underscoring where their loyalty and inspiration lay.
Also present was a lesser-known political aspirant, Ms. Dianah—who refers to herself as Princess Dianah—a contestant in the upcoming NRM primaries for Woman MP. She attempted to win support by handing Shs200,000 to the leaders of five women groups, but this gesture left many attendees puzzled and disgruntled. “Why give money to just leaders instead of benefiting all of us?” murmured one of the women, echoing a sentiment shared by many.
In stark contrast, Nyakato’s contributions were inclusive, empowering, and transparent—a true reflection of the servant leadership that has defined her first term.
As 2026 draws closer, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: Hoima City’s women know who stands with them, and who only shows up when it’s politically convenient. And if the reception at Kigarama was any indication, Hon. Nyakato Asinansi is not just campaigning—she is being called back by popular demand.
