Prominent social entrepreneur and Vice Chairperson of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) for Central Region, Frank Gashumba, was among the 20-member delegation that accompanied President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his nomination at the Electoral Commission Nomination Centre in Lweeza, Lubowa, Kampala.

The high-profile team included the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, members of the NRM Central Executive Committee, former Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, and the President’s son-in-law and lawyer, Edwin Karugire. The presence of Gashumba marked the PLU’s official declaration of support for President Museveni in the 2026–2031 elections.

Speaking shortly after the nomination, Gashumba, who also chairs the Council for Abavandimwe, an association uniting indigenous Banyarwanda in Uganda, pledged to rally his community behind President Museveni. He commended the President for addressing long-standing grievances, including the denial of passports and national identity cards by the National Identification Registration Authority (NIRA) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“The President has stood with us in resolving issues that have for long denied our people their rightful identification documents. It is now our duty to stand with him in 2026,” Gashumba vowed.

With the PLU officially aligning itself with Museveni’s bid and influential figures like Gashumba promising massive grassroots mobilization, the NRM leader’s nomination sets the tone for what is expected to be a highly contested electoral season.
