Ex-Minister Rwakasisi Applauds Prof. Mushemeza Apology to Teachers, Urges Teachers to Forgive Him

Kampala, Uganda —

Former Minister and current Presidential Advisor, Hon. Chris Rwakasisi, has publicly applauded Prof. Elijah Mushemeza for his recent apology to Ugandan teachers and has called upon educators across the country to accept the apology and extend forgiveness.

In a reflective statement titled “Forgiveness”, Hon. Rwakasisi delves into the Christian principles of mercy and reconciliation, urging teachers not to wait for the pain to subside before forgiving, but to do so “while still on the cross”—a reference to the biblical account of Jesus forgiving his executioners while still suffering.

“Teachers, are you still in agony? Yes, then this is the right time to forgive,” Rwakasisi stated, drawing from Luke 23:34 to emphasize that forgiveness is most meaningful when it occurs in the midst of suffering.

Rwakasisi, who served as an MP and Minister is known for his deep Christian convictions, stressed that true forgiveness must go beyond words, involving reconciliation and acceptance of the offender.

He also highlighted that human beings, in their own strength, cannot fully forgive, but must rely on the Holy Spirit and the love of God to do so.

“Forgiveness comes from love. Love is God. Therefore, you use the love of God through the Holy Spirit in you, to forgive,” he wrote.

Addressing the concern that some may question the sincerity of Prof. Mushemeza’s apology, Rwakasisi urged teachers not to dwell on speculation or suspicion.

“Even if there is an ulterior motive, you leave that one to his Creator to judge him,” he advised.

Rwakasisi also commended a recent response from a teacher, identified as Bryan, who had expressed skepticism toward the apology. While appreciating Bryan’s articulate and sincere sentiments, the former minister reminded him—and all Christians—of the biblical imperative:

“But if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (Matthew 6:15)

The statement comes in the wake of Prof. Mushemeza’s public appeal for forgiveness from teachers, acknowledging past missteps and expressing regret over how teachers may have been treated or misunderstood.

Rwakasisi concluded his message with a call to action:

“There is no sin that cannot be forgiven. Prof. Mushemeza has accepted his trespasses and asked for forgiveness. I pray that teachers do accept and grant him forgiveness.
