Kamwenge District – In a bold political development that has energized the youth and grassroots mobilizers in Kibale East, Crispas Asimwe Mugisha, a dynamic Kampala-based businessman and community activist, has officially been nominated to contest in the upcoming NRM party primaries, aiming to unseat long-serving MP and Agriculture Minister Frank Tumwebaze.

Crispas, who attempted to contest in the 2021 general elections but was controversially blocked from nomination, has spent the last five years building a solid grassroots base, positioning himself as the people’s candidate. His return to the race marks a significant turning point in the politics of Kibale East.

A Rising Force for Change

Known for his youthful energy, generosity, and unwavering connection with the people, Crispas Mugisha has already made a visible impact in the constituency. He has donated a Land Cruiser ambulance, several other vehicles for emergency medical response, and motorcycles to Boda Boda riders to support their economic independence. His contributions to schools, churches, and other community projects have earned him widespread respect across the district.

What sets Crispas apart is not just his philanthropy, but his commitment to uplifting ordinary citizens and empowering youth to participate in development. He represents a new generation of leadership—transparent, inclusive, and people-driven.

Frank Tumwebaze: A Minister Under Scrutiny

Minister Frank Tumwebaze, who has served in Parliament since 2006 and held various ministerial positions for over 13 years, is facing increasing criticism from within his constituency. Once seen as a political heavyweight, Tumwebaze is now accused by sections of the youth and local leaders of failing to leverage his influence in government to create job opportunities or foster real development in Kibale East.

He has also come under fire for allegedly frustrating educated and ambitious individuals in the area, fearing political competition. Reports from local sources suggest that most lucrative tenders in the district have been awarded to companies linked to his political allies, especially through LCV Chairperson Karungi Joseph, whom Tumwebaze reportedly sponsored in the 2021 elections. Many of these projects have allegedly delivered substandard work, further eroding public trust.

A Race Redefined

The contest has taken on new significance following the withdrawal of former LCV Chairperson Aggrey Natuhamya, who cited an unlevelled playing field. His exit leaves the battlefield wide open for a high-stakes faceoff between Crispas Mugisha, a bold, well-resourced challenger with youth momentum behind him, and Frank Tumwebaze, a powerful and experienced but embattled incumbent.

Local political analysts see this as more than just an election—it’s a referendum on two competing visions for the future of Kibale East: one rooted in continuity and political control, the other in empowerment, transparency, and community-led development.

With the primaries around the corner, all eyes are now on Crispas Mugisha, the man many believe could finally break the political monopoly and return power to the people.
