Kampala, Uganda – September 24, 2025
The Council for Abavandimwe has reaffirmed its unwavering support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni ahead of the 2026 general elections, pledging to rally members across the country to secure him an overwhelming victory.
The announcement came on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Patriotism Clubs of Uganda’s head offices in Kampala, where members of the council presented a specially crafted portrait to President Museveni as a token of appreciation.
According to the leadership, their decision to endorse President Museveni stems from what they described as his “historic and lasting solution” to decades of marginalization and victimization suffered by their community. They hailed the President for issuing an Executive Order that paved the way for Abavandimwe members to obtain national identity cards and passports after years of struggle.
“With this Executive Order, our people are finally being recognized as Ugandans. We are now able to access national IDs and passports. This is why we are resolute in our decision to support President Museveni’s leadership,” the council declared.
The council emphasized that its members had already shown their commitment by turning up in large numbers to escort President Museveni during his recent nomination and to participate in the rally at Kololo. They vowed to sustain this momentum throughout the campaign season.
“I call upon all our members across the country to get actively involved in the campaign and ensure that President Museveni secures nothing less than 81% of the vote in the 2026 general elections,” one of the leaders said.
The show of loyalty underscores the ruling NRM’s continued consolidation of support ahead of the polls, particularly from groups that feel directly impacted by the President’s policy interventions.
As the campaigns gather steam, the endorsement from Abavandimwe adds to the growing list of constituencies that have publicly declared their backing for President Museveni’s extended stay in power.
