MBARARA, UGANDA – The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, has received a major political boost in her bid to become the 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party after receiving a ringing endorsement from party delegates in Mbarara District and Mbarara City.
Addressing a gathering of enthusiastic NRM leaders and members in Mbarara, Among expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support from the region. “I want to express my sincere gratitude to the delegates from the District of Mbarara and Mbarara City for the confidence they have shown in my ability to lead as their second National Vice Chairperson (Female),” she said.
Among the leaders who led Ankole to endorse her included Workers MP Arinaitwe Rwakajara, Mbarara City MPs Mwine Mpaka, Robert Rukari and Ritah Atukwasa among others.

Anita Among also acknowledged the support of area party leaders and Members of Parliament, emphasizing unity and collective effort in revitalizing the NRM. “Together, we can reignite the passion that makes our party more attractive, under the capable leadership of our Leader, General Kaguta Museveni,” she noted.
Her endorsement comes at a time when the party is gearing up for internal elections that will shape its leadership ahead of the 2026 general elections. Among’s candidature is seen by many as a move to consolidate women’s leadership within the NRM and enhance grassroots mobilization.
During her tour of the Ankole sub-region, Among engaged with local council leaders, seeking firsthand understanding of the challenges faced by communities in the region. She pledged to be their voice at the national level. “My Ankole tour allowed me to interact with local council leaders and gain firsthand insight into the challenges they face. I pledge to be their voice in the decision-making rooms, ensuring that together we find workable solutions to their problems,” she said.
Political analysts view Among’s growing influence within the party as a significant development, given her current role as Speaker of Parliament and her strong ties with both the party leadership and grassroots structures.
The endorsement from Ankole – a region regarded as one of the strongholds of the NRM – is expected to give her campaign considerable momentum as she continues her bid for one of the highest-ranking positions within the party’s leadership structure.
