As the National Resistance Movement (NRM) officially kicked off the nomination exercise for aspiring Members of Parliament, top government officials including Vice President Jesca Alupo, Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, and Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa have picked nomination forms, signaling their intention to seek re-election in their respective constituencies.
Speaker Among, who is seeking to retain her seat as Bukedea District Woman MP, commended the NRM for maintaining transparency and fairness in its internal electoral processes.
“I want to thank the NRM for being a consistent and democratic party. Our party has always prioritized transparency, and I have full confidence in this process,” Among said shortly after collecting her nomination forms from the NRM Electoral Commission offices at Kyadondo.

When asked if she would consider contesting as an independent candidate should she lose in the party primaries, Among was quick to dismiss the possibility. “I am a tested leader. I have no doubt I will go through the primaries. There is no need to even think about running as an independent,” she stated confidently.
Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, who is eyeing another term as MP for Ruhinda North County in Mitooma District, also picked his nomination forms earlier in the day. In a statement, he expressed renewed enthusiasm to continue serving both his constituents and the country.
“At midday today, I picked up nomination forms from the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters at Kyadondo to run for Member of Parliament for Ruhinda North Constituency. To me, leadership means going down to the communities, listening to the people, and bringing their voices to national and global platforms wherever I have the opportunity to represent them,” Tayebwa said.

He further noted, “Leadership also means working hand in hand with communities and mobilizing them for the collective good. I feel energized to continue serving both my constituents and the country at large as Deputy Speaker. I thank the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, for the seamless electoral process they have put in place. I pledge to follow party electoral guidelines as we embark on this crucial exercise.”
Vice President Jesca Alupo also picked nomination forms, reaffirming her commitment to continue representing Katakwi District. Her presence among the early aspirants underscores the high level of political interest and competition anticipated in the forthcoming elections.
The NRM party has opened the nomination window as part of its roadmap leading to the 2026 general elections. Party officials have reiterated their commitment to conducting free and fair primaries, setting the tone for a competitive and transparent electoral season within the ruling party.
