A political storm has hit Ndorwa West as over 90% of NRM leaders and supporters have openly deserted the party’s so-called flag bearer, Eliab Mporeera, and declared their unwavering support for Minister of State for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives (Industry), Hon. David Bahati. The message from the grassroots is loud and clear — Ndorwa West belongs to Bahati, the true son of the NRM revolution.
In a heated meeting held shortly after Bahati’s nomination by the National Electoral Commission, leaders from every corner of Ndorwa West and Kabale district poured their hearts out. One by one, they pledged allegiance to President Museveni and Hon. David Bahati, describing the duo as “the pillars of the NRM in Kigezi.”
Mporeera’s House Collapsing Before the Battle Begins
The so-called flag bearer, Eliab Mporeera, seems to be a flag bearer in name only. He may have carried the yellow flag on paper, but on the ground, he commands nothing — not even the confidence of the very structures he claims to lead. The party leaders who are supposed to be his mobilisers have completely turned their backs on him, branding him a product of fraud, impunity, and violence that marred the NRM primaries.
“We cannot lose a leader like Minister Bahati who has built this party together with President Museveni for all these years,” said Keith, the NRM chairperson from Kabale. “We know his loyalty, his work, and his love for the movement. We don’t see any other person fit to carry the flag of the party.”
Bahati: The Heart and Soul of the NRM in Kabale
Miss Patience Tusiime, Chairperson of the NRM Women’s League in Kabale District, minced no words: “As NRM leaders, we cannot abandon a man who was cheated through violence and irregularities. We cannot allow the party to lose Minister Bahati — never, never!”
Her words echoed through the room, finding agreement among dozens of sub-county chairpersons, LC3 leaders, and NRM mobilisers. To them, Bahati is not just a leader — he is the lifeline of the NRM in Kabale, a man whose loyalty to President Museveni and the Movement ideology is unquestionable.
Milton Tumwesigye, NRM chairperson for Kibuga Sub-county, condemned the chaos that surrounded the last primaries, stressing that party members are tired of the impunity that produced unpopular candidates like Mporeera. “We know what happened, and we shall not let that violence define our party. The people want Bahati, and Bahati they shall have,” he said.

Leaders Unite Behind Bahati and Museveni
Mr. Masiko Runyasi, NRM Chairperson for Central Division, Kabale Municipality, appreciated Bahati’s humility and commitment to listening to the voice of the people. “We asked him to continue leading the rescue mission of the party in Kabale and Ndorwa West, and he accepted. That’s the mark of a true servant leader.”
The meeting was a show of political force — sub-county LC3 chairpersons, NRM flag bearers, women and youth leaders all stood as one behind Bahati and President Museveni.
Bahati Vows to Deliver 90% for Museveni in Kabale
In his remarks, Hon. Bahati thanked the leaders for their loyalty and resilience, calling upon them to go back to the grassroots and mobilize for the Movement. He assured them that he is ready to defend the NRM and its legacy from opportunists and impostors.
“Our goal is to give President Museveni 90% support from Kabale District,” Bahati declared to thunderous applause. “The NRM is not a flag for sale; it is a movement built on sacrifice, service, and loyalty — and we shall defend it.”
The Verdict: Ndorwa West Has Chosen
The writing is on the wall: Eliab Mporeera may hold the title of flag bearer, but he has lost the heart of the party. The real flag of the NRM in Ndorwa West is in the hands of Hon. David Bahati — the man who has walked every step of the journey with President Museveni, built the party structures, and delivered victory after victory.
As one elder put it during the meeting, “You can’t separate the NRM in Kabale from Bahati. He is the foundation, the structure, and the spirit of the party here.”
For Ndorwa West, the choice is not between two candidates — it’s between a loyal servant of the Movement and a political accident. And from all indications, the Movement has already decided.
