In a powerful show of patriotism and support for Ugandan sports, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Anita Annet Among paid a surprise visit to the Uganda Cranes squad currently competing in the CHAN Championship.
Accompanied by her husband, Hon Eng Moses Magogo, who is also the President of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), the Speaker’s visit electrified the team camp and boosted morale ahead of their crucial group matches.
Speaker Among commended the players for their commitment and sacrifice in representing Uganda on the continental stage and urged them to give their utmost to raise the national flag high. She reminded them that they carry not just their dreams, but the hopes of 45 million Ugandans.
“You are not alone. You have the full backing of the nation and of the President, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is the number one fan of Ugandan football,” Speaker Among said.

In a grand gesture of motivation, the Speaker contributed US dollar 20,000 to the team and pledged to reward them with a similar amount for every win they register in the tournament. The team also received an additional UGX 20 million from businessman and philanthropist Hamis Kigundu, which the Speaker delivered on his behalf. Kigundu also committed to donate UGX 20 million for each Uganda Cranes victory in CHAN.
The visit comes at a critical time in the tournament and is being seen as a vote of confidence in Uganda’s young talent and a reminder of Parliament’s growing interest in supporting national sports.
Speaker Among’s presence, coupled with FUFA President Magogo’s leadership, further cemented the government’s commitment to uplifting sports in Uganda, especially football—a game that unites millions across the nation.
