Parliament of Uganda, Kampala – July 31, 2025
Parliament on Thursday paid glowing tribute to His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II as he marked 32 years since his coronation as King of Buganda. During the plenary session, legislators extended their warm congratulations to the monarch, praising his enduring leadership and the Buganda Kingdom’s continued role in shaping Uganda’s cultural and socio-economic fabric.
Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Annet Anita Among led the House in honoring the Kabaka. In a message shared on her official platform and echoed during plenary, she extended her “heartfelt felicitations” to the Kabaka, stating,
“May your reign be an enduring one.”
Among further commended the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government for restoring cultural and traditional institutions across the country. The Speaker urged other kingdoms to emulate Buganda’s contributions to societal progress.
Hon. Asuman Basalirwa, MP for Bugiri Municipality, echoed the Speaker’s sentiments, highlighting Buganda’s role as a model for socio-economic development.
“What is happening in Buganda can be replicated in other kingdoms, especially in terms of the socio-economic transformation,” he said.
Speaker Among also took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to reaffirm her admiration for the monarch’s leadership, writing:
“I join all Ugandans in honouring and congratulating His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, on his 32nd coronation anniversary. May your reign continue to inspire and guide the socio-economic transformation of your people. Wangaala!”
The Buganda Kingdom remains a beacon of cultural heritage and socio-political influence in Uganda. Kabaka Mutebi II was crowned on July 31, 1993, and continues to be a symbol of unity, tradition, and development for the Baganda people and the country at large.
As Ugandans across the country celebrate this historic milestone, Parliament’s gesture underscores the central role cultural institutions play in national identity and development.
