The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has announced plans to replace several of its district registrars ahead of the party’s parliamentary primary elections scheduled for July 17.
The announcement was made during a press conference held Monday at the NRM headquarters in Kyadondo, chaired by Dr. Tanga Odoi, the chairperson of the party’s Electoral Commission.
Dr. Odoi revealed that 13 district registrars had voluntarily requested retirement, citing age and health-related reasons. He added that additional registrars could be replaced or dismissed based on their performance during the ongoing electoral processes.
He announced that the party on 7th July 2025 was going to have a meeting to discuss the fate of the registrars who have voluntary asked to be retired and those who may be dismissed or changed. He said they would announce the new registrars on the 8th July 2025.
Flanked by other Electoral Commission officials, Dr. Odoi also issued a stern warning to aspirants who are defying party guidelines by holding solo campaign activities. He emphasized that only the NRM Electoral Commission has the authority to grant special permission for individual campaigning under exceptional circumstances.
“So far, the only candidate who has officially been permitted to campaign alone is General Moses Ali, the Third Deputy Prime Minister,” Dr. Odoi stated. “No such approval has been granted to any other candidate.”
The NRM party has been conducting joint campaign efforts to promote unity among candidates and ensure fair play in the run-up to the hotly contested primaries.
